HUMANOIDS FROM THE DEEP 1980 Barbara Peeters IMHO,the best Corman-Produced film of the eighties! This one has the lot! Nubile girlies, exposed at every opportunity! Decent monsters, gore and violence aplenty! It also has two other important things,a good solid cast and atmosphere, which James Horner's score helps immensely. Another cracking seaside locale. The DVD is the best I've seen it looking, and I've owned three previous versions of this. It's also fully uncut, and for those of you who've only seen the region 1 truncated version, then you're in for a treat! Also, there is MORE rumpy-pumpy shennanigans contained in the deleted scenes! It's be very interesting to see these reinstated into a 'Corman cut' ! Who else is a fan of this? One of the best schlockers from the '80's!

Imo HFTD is also well paced and Horner's musical contribution is indeed worthy of note. Rob Bottin's FX work is still quite good now especially the actual gore. The man delivered some impressive stuff here considering the limited monetary resources at his disposal. The legendary Bottin also maintained the same standard of excellence in the earlier Piranha. The film's original French cinema poster artwork also get's a thumbs up from yours truly and HFTD sorely needs and deserves a U.K. DVD and BR release. I've got my doubts on this ever happening sometime soon though and even if it does, i think it's safe to say the British edition would be inferior to the new U.S. equivalent. |

Humanoids is on its way to me in the post, I can't wait to watch it again. It's definitely one of my favourite monster movies of the 80's.I first saw it years back on the UK Warner VHS under the title Monster.I too was impressed with Rob Bottin's FX work, especially the design of the humanoids suits and the birth scene.

Since Shout Factory have released the uncut international version of the film, the print actually uses the title Monster.

A cracking cult film to be sure. The deleted scenes reinserted wouldn't,IMO slow the pace at all. In fact, when it ended I wanted MORE!

Reaps, can you please confirm if the scant extras found on the earlier full frame excised R1 DVD have all been ported over to the new and improved SD and HD editions? Cheers. |
