This is a good news week. It just is. There are many reasons for this. There are four great titles out this week and there’s great news aplenty and I’m going to get started with some of it right about… Now.
The news that has made my week, if not my life, is that Arrow’s Blu-ray release of Deep Red has been passed 18 and uncut by the BBFC. Yep, you heard me. Uncut. Now you might remember that I was pretty much resigned to Deep Red being cut by the BBFC on the grounds on animal cruelty. Well, a note was passed from Dario Argento’s production company to Arrow and then on to the BBFC. This note read, “La lucertola non era morta, ma era un tipo di trucco fatto con un chiodo falso.” Now, for those of you not up on your Italian, this translates as “The lizard was not harmed, it was an effect done with a false pin.” Well, we all know what that means: no animal cruelty means no grounds for cutting the scene, thus Deep Red gets released uncut! Huzzah!

OUT THIS WEEK!
There are four awesome titles escaping their shackles at the laboratory this week. The first up, out on DVD and Blu-ray, is Hunt to Kill, a gloriously violent action flick starring Stone Cold Steve Austin. Austin stars as U.S. Border Patrol agent Jim Rhodes. When a crew of trigger-happy fugitives takes Rhodes and his daughter hostage, a rugged wilderness will explode in all-terrain vengeance. Is there any wounded animal more dangerous than a lawman left for dead? Think it sounds cool? Check out the trailer and let us know what you think on the official thread.
Next up is The Bronx Warriors, out on DVD from Shameless Screen Entertainment. This post-apocalyptic-style action fest is a must for anyone who likes bikes, fights and big hair. For more details, and to let us know your thoughts, check out the official thread!
Also out this week is Adam Green’s Frozen, on DVD and Blu-ray from Momentum Pictures. This Hitchcock-style exercise in tension has been getting great reviews so check out the trailer and let us know your thoughts!
Last, but by no means least, is Prisoner Cell Block H: Volume 5, out on DVD from Shock Entertainment and FremantleMedia Enterprises. This awesome TV series needs no introduction. The brilliant Australian prison soap is a favourite over at Cult Labs so check out the special Prisoner playlist and have a gander at the Prisoner subforum.
NOT LIKE OTHERS: NEW BLOG AND CLIP
Last week I told you about the awesome and intelligent vampire flick, Not Like Others, which will be released on DVD by Chelsea Films on 25 October 2010. Like other “outsider” vampire movies, Not Like Others presents a horror that doesn’t operate on a purely supernatural level. This is a horror only once removed from reality and it’s all the better for it. The director weaves elements of Jean Rollin’s amazing 70s productions (twins, doomed vampires, sombre tone, erotic bloodletting), creating a movie that uses the tragic circumstances of the two leads to make the audience sympathetic to two characters who essentially view us as prey. In this week’s clip from the movie, we see one of the sisters cleaning up after a “meal”. It’s a simple scene that illustrates the realist tone and natural performances that set the movie apart from other, more traditional monster movies…
TWO NEW SHAMELESS SCREENINGS ANNOUNCED
Shameless Screen Entertainment have announce two special screenings of their films, with more to come! The first is Torso, which will screen at the New Continental in Preston on 22 October 2010 at 8pm! It’s only £3.50 for entry and the film will be shown on a 14ft high definition screen so, if you can make it, come along! This night will also act as a launch for Fulci’s Box of Terror and there will be copies of this great boxset being given away on the night. Check out the absolutely brilliant poster here! The second screening is of The Bronx Warriors and is hosted by Cigarette Burns at the Mucky Pup in London on 1 November 2010 at 7:30pm. This one is free entry too so there’s no excuse – if you can make it, come on down!

Suggestions for Shameless Numbering Method
Some forum members have expressed concern at how the re-releases of some Shameless titles will affect the spine numbering of their collection. This issue was imposed on Shameless by the rigidity of the barcoding system but Shameless want your suggestions to help them solve it for all future releases. Do you have any great ideas on how they might do this? Head on over to this thread to share them with us!
This great BBC4 documentary is right up a lot of Cult Labbers’ streets.You can check out what others thought of it and share your opinions on this thread. Just a couple of bits and bobs from your friendly neighbourhood mods this week.
- Watch your tone. Remember that writing on a forum is different to speaking. You might mean something as a joke but the person reading it might not get that from what you’ve written. Don’t accidentally upset someone through carelessness!
- Please remember that football talk is not allowed on Cult Labs. It causes too many fights and we like to keep things friendly, like!
- Remember to check the competitions section regularly as Kyle adds new comps on a weekly basis and sometimes there are special super-comps that appear by magic!
