Welcome to another cram-packed weekly newsletter, filled to the brim with all the latest and greatest Cult Labs news. Sadly, Sarah isn’t feeling herself today so I’ve been asked to fill in for you lucky people, just so you don’t miss a week of newsletter-ness. Who am I? Well, some people call me Iluvdvds, others call be a lazy student bum, and they’d be right, but you can call me Kyle since that’s my name. Why hello there! So, I apologise in advance if this is slightly less awesome than Sarah’s newsletters (demonstrated by the picture) but not everyone is as talented (though I do make one hell of a Pot Noodle). Plus, it will give me a nice little break from all the zombie dismemberment and sasquatch hunting I usually do in my spare time. But enough of this jibber-jabber, waffling-blah-blah-blah small talk! Let’s crack on with some news!
THE NEW BARBARIANS IS OUT NOW!
Oh yes, that’s right readers, The New Barbarians is currently available in the shops as I write this. So, if you never managed to track down the incredible Bronx Warriors tin, never had enough bling to buy it or just fancy owning them all seperatly for some reason, well now you can! Horray! Futuristic post-apocalyptic Italian exploitation? How can anyone possibly say no to that! Visit the official page for it’s release over at the forums here, and chit-chat away about it.
LET THE COUNTDOWN BEGIN!
In less than a month, the brand spanking new Arrow release of Dario Argento’s masterpiece, The Bay Of Blood will be available to buy on DVD and Blu-Ray! Complete with reversible sleeves, an in-depth booklet (from Jay Slater, writer of Eaten Alive!), Alternative cuts of the film and more special features than you thought was possible (even a commentary from Edgar Wright) this is one package not to miss. The DVD/Blu-Ray is scheduled for release on the 6th of December, which means it’s the perfect time to leave little notes around the house, hinting and nudging whoever sees them of what you want Santa to be bringing you this Christmas. Be sure to check out the thread to keep up to date with all the latest happenings and discussions on this.
MORE ARGENTO GOODIES
Just when you thought that Arrow couldn’t get any better. Just when you thought your Argento collection was up-to-date, this sweet baby explodes on to the scene. Arguably, Argento’s greatest masterpiece (alongside Suspiria) Deep Red is being released with all the amazing extras you’d expect from Arrow Video. Just check out that artwork. Need I say more?
THERE’S SOMETHING GOING ON AT THE LABORATORY
Right, I need a break. For some reason I’ve got The Little Shop Of Horror’s Downtown (Skid Row) song stuck on rotation in my head. Time to fix that with a burst of black metal I think. Venom, perhaps?
New York Ripper in Gore-geous High Def.
In case you’ve been living in a cave for the past week or so (which is possible), you’ll probably already know that Shameless Screen Entertainment are releasing their New York Ripper, directed by the ever brilliant Lucio Fulci who had a real eye for exploitation (which was probably empaled like every other eye in his films!). Be sure to visit the thread by clicking here to get chatting about this release. Will you be buying? Will it be a Yellow-Ray? Will it be uncut? You’ll be quackers not to check it out (see what I did there? It’s the way you tell ‘em.)
The Strange Vice Of Mrs. Wardh
“Gialli on the plate. Gialli on the plate. Blood and guts and lots of sleaze. Gialli on the plate.” Sadly, there is no song in this film with those lyrics, mainly because I’ve just made it up. But besides that slight disapointment, The Strange Vice… is an incredible film – or at least that’s what I’ve heard. For the first time on UK DVD, Shameless have proudly announced that this will be the next film that they release. High fives all around! Visit the thread to get gossiping, whether you’ve seen it or not.
Fave Horror Magazines
Now here’s an interesting little poll. I’m sure that the majority of those reading this (congratulations on getting this far!) are huge fans of horror films. From the old to the new and the gothic and the gory. But how many of you collect/buy magazines devoted to horror films? Well, judging by this thread and poll, quite a lot of you. With the new kids on the block, Scream Magazine, it seems like the perfect time to get talking about horror mags. Fangoria or Rue Morgue? It’s a toughie…or is it?
QUOTE OF THE WEEK
This week’s quote of the week is dedicated to Reaps (or to give him his full title, Reaper@Cult Labs) in regard to casting Zac Efron in a remake, “Should put him in the next Hostel film!” I would pay good money to see that. On second thoughts, maybe not.
KYLE’S COMP CORNER
That’s me! This week I’m giving away three dvds of the new zombie film, Siege of the Dead, but two of them have already been won! If you haven’t already, head over to the competitions and check out the rules. They’re fairly straight forward! Also, as always, if you have any suggestions for me about the competitions, then don’t hesitate to PM me!
WELCOME NEWBIES
A BIG ‘hello’ to…uh. Ah, well this is awkward. No new newbies on the ”New Members Pop In And Say Hello Thread.’ Be sure to get onto that thread and introduce yourself before getting stuck in, that way you’ll get a nice friendly welcome AND an appearance in the weekly newsletter.
Well, I think that’s me done for this newsletter. Hope you enjoyed it and thanks for reading!
