THIS WEEK @ CULT LABS: 22 JULY 2011

TIME TO SAY GOODBYE…

After 1 year, 4 months and 2 weeks of telling you what I’m watching, what I’m eating and how much fake tan I have on, it’s time for me to leave you.  Sort of. I’m taking on some new roles at Cult Labs and so the newsletter reigns are being handed over to the wonderful Kyle. I’ll still pop up occasionally when he’s off on holiday but for all intents and purposes, this is my last newsletter.

So what will I be watching as I cry myself to sleep? My top choice is the brilliant Almost Human (Shameless Screen Entertainment: DVD) which is so great its first run has almost completely sold out in its first week of release! Check out the mini-forum and blog for more info.

Now, get on with enjoying my swan song!

ALSO OUT NOW

Also out this week is Tobe Hooper’s classic slasher, The Funhouse (Arrow Video: Blu-ray).

The carnival is a place for fun and laughter, but not for Amy and her friends. When their childish dare to stay all night in the spooky funhouse backfires, it leaves a trail of dismembered teenagers a mile long in Tobe Hooper’s classic video nasty era slasher.

So much fun that you’ll never leave…Alive!

Packed with extras and featuring stunning picture quality, this is a must for all fans of Hooper, slasher films and scary-ass carnivals!

For more, check out the official mini-forum!

THERE’S SOMETHING GOING ON AT THE LABORATORY

For the last time (until Kyle goes on holiday) I get to trawl though the Labs, letting you know what’s caught my eye. Because it’s a special occasion, I’m treating myself to some chocolates with my cuppa today. A few chocolate-based calories never hurt anyone! So here it goes, for the last time…

SHAM033 – Don’t Torture a Duckling: The Artwork

Shameless have revealed the artwork for panel A of their forthcoming release of Lucio Fulci’s Don’t Torture a Duckling. It’s a very… revealing… piece of art so why not let us know what you think over on this thread?

So is it Fulci’s masterpiece?

While we’re on the topic of Don’t Torture a Duckling, I might as well draw your attention to this thread. The word “masterpiece” is used a lot in relation to this film and its director but do you agree? Answer on the poll and let us know your thoughts and reasons in the thread!

The Thing remake/prequel

Hmmm… I’m remaining open-minded on this one because I adore Mary Elizabeth Winstead but I’m not convinced that it needs to be called The Thing if it’s a prequel and not a remake. What do you think? Share your thoughts in this thread!

The Twilight Zone: Official UK DVD & BD Forum

Just pointing you in the direction of the TZ forum because a little bird tells me a very cool competition is heading there in the next week…

If you’re heading over to the forums, be sure to check out the forum rules and pop into the new members thread to say hello if you haven’t already. If you ever feel intimidated by the behaviour of any Cult Labs members, tell one of the mods in strictest confidence: that’s me, Reaps, Stephen, Nos and bizarre_eye.

KYLE’S COMP CORNER

This week, Kyle has a copy of Arrow Videos glorious BD of The Funhouse to give away! To be in with a chance of winning this brilliant prize, head on over to the Comp Corner now! Good luck…

THE BEST OF THE GRINDHOUSE PROJECT

If you haven’t see it on Cult Labs The GrindHouse Project is the place to find out about cult film screenings, festivals and societies in your local area. Below are BioZombie‘s favourite picks for the next week:

22 July 2011 CLERKS Prince Charles Cinema – London

A special, quote along, version of one of my favourite films.

23 July 2011 NIGHT OF THE DEMON & VAMPIRE CIRCUS The Lass O’Gowrie – Manchester

The Classic Horror Campaign guys are back, this time in Manchester. Doing great work as ever.

25 July 2011 FREAKS Filmhouse Cinema – Edinburgh

If you’ve not seen this class old, old school exploitation film it’s really worth a look, especially on the big screen.

Cult film demands to seen on the big screen with an appreciative audience, so head over to The GrindHouse Project and give in to that demand (or else).

GET INVOLVED WITH CULT LABS!

There are so many ways you can get involved with all the cult film fun at Cult Labs:

So, for the last time, I’m off now! It’s been great doing the newsletter every week and I hope you’ve enjoyed reading it. Thank you for being a great audience – I’ll see you round the Labs!
