HIP HIP HORRAY!
Why hello Cult Labbers. It’s me, Kyle (Iluvdvds) – your brand spanking new author of the Weekly Newsletter straight from the fiery pits of Hell, Norfolk. Horrah and horray! After almost one and a half years of newsletter perfection from the Queen of Cult Labs herself, Sarah, I have been rewarded the chance to take over and completely ruin it… I mean continue to improve it. So slip on your reading spectacles, stick on some Judas Priest and ignore any accidental speling misstakes as I guide you through the ins and outs of what’s been happening in the Cult Labs Kingdom. Saddle up, it’s going to be a bumpy ride.
COMING SOON TO A STORE NEAR YOU…
Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy, there are several fantastic films heading your way very soon that are so exciting they are guaranteed to cause premature bowel movements. From a ticked-off hobo to insane swordfights, there are plenty of great releases here to really sink your hungry fangs into. Kicking it all off is none other than my personal favourite film of the entire year. Yes, that’s right, it’s Hobo With A Shotgun (Momentum Pictures, DVD & BD). Staring the baddest of bad-asses Rutger “Wanna-know-what-happens-to-an-eyeball-when-it-gets-punctured?” Hauer in the lead role, this throwback to the 80s video era puts the awe in awesome, the F in WTF and the blood-soaked shell right in the stupid faces of those murderous scumbag villians! Be sure to check out the film’s main hubsite for constantly updated features including ‘Why Rutger Hauer Is Cool 101’ and the Daily Mail’s outrage over the films gorgeous gore. And if you managed to see the film on the big screen then don’t hesitate in join in the conversation over on the forum!
Also out on August 1st is the cult classic television show The Twilight Zone Series 3 (Shock Entertainment & Fremantle Media Enterprises, BD & DVD). Join Rod Sterling in a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity and with more narrative twists than a tornado on the Saw rollercoaster. Check out the blog and forum for all the latest and be sure to check out the competition highlighted below!
Whilst it is true that I am indeed the equivilant of a human tank with my rippling and bulging muscles (Grr) I would never mess with the guys in these two Asian-Action fests The Lost Bladesman (Icon, BD & DVD, 8th August) and 13 Assassins (Artificial Eye, BD & DVD, 5th September). Those guys are crazy! Just look at their facial hair! Check out the hubsites here and here…or else!
THERE’S SOMETHING GOING ON AT THE LABORATORY…
As per usual the forum has been teeming with chit-chat about horror and cult cinema. Sometimes it can all get a little bit… WAAAH! So I’ve picked out a few little things from the forum that you should check out.
- Are Horror Films Actually Scary? Pretty self-explanatory title really. Does The Exorcist make you scream like a menopausal banshee? Does Halloween make the hairs on your neck shake and shiver? Does Paranormal Activity cause an involuntary squirt of pee to squeeze out every time the door creeks open? Confess here!
- VHS Discussion. Forget Blu-Ray! Let’s get all nostalgic and retro with an entire thread dedicated to the golden age of home video. Show off your collection, share your memories and watch through tears of despair as you realize a VHS you gave to charity a few years back is selling for hundreds of pounds online.
- Be sure to join us in our monthly Cult Labs Film Night on the 1st of August! This month’s film is the zombie masterpiece, Fulci’s The Beyond. Meet us on Twitter at 9pm to join in the fun. Click here for more details.
