10 DAYS LEFT…
Until humanity is plundered into the darkened depths of Hell as ghouls and ghoolies of all kinds crawl and clamber their way out of the shadows to terrorise the living… for their sweets or threaten them with the eggs of chickens! Yes, it’s nearly Halloweeny! The only time of year when you can dress up like a complete idiot and do stupid things, unless of course you’re a student where that stuff is built into the daily routine. How are you planning on celebrating the big night? Trick ‘r treating? Bobbing for apples? Or perhaps that family favourite, raising the devil? Then again you could always have a horror movie marathon all Halloween long? Maybe you’ll even find a few films to watch in this newsletter…
ALL THE BEST THINGS OUT NOW!
There’s only one big release out this week really. A spanish slice of European Exploitation goodness ramned with dusky, murky sleaze, a zombie, devilsh plots and…a fashion catwalk? Yes, a fashon catwalk! Of course, it can only be that rather obscure little gem, The Devil’s Kiss availale now on Arrowdrome’s Horror label (just over a fiver at HMV). This is the only Arrowdrome release so far that Arrow hasn’t released else where and it proves to have a certain charm for fans of Eurotrash. If you fancy touching up your knowledge of Spanish zombies from the ’70s or would like to learn a little more about the films director, then the new blog entry is just for you! Included is detailed information on Jordi Gigó’s complete obscure filmography from The Devil’s Kiss to the hardcore Porno Girls (which tells the story of an empowered female fighting against society’s problems…NOT!) that remained an underground secret for a decade before stepping up slightly on the obscurity ladder. Interesting stuff. The Devil’s Kiss is out now – be sure to let us know what you think of it over on it’s sub-forum
STRANGLE THE CLOWN’S KILLER JOKE OF THE WEEK!
Oh jeez, everyone hide! Here comes the lamest clown of all time. Strangle the Clown is back again with another pity-enducing pun. But make sure you laugh, or you could wake up with your tongue attached to the ground and a stampede of circus elephants rampaging towards you with Strangle manically cackling as he watches. Clowns, you scary.
- What should you say when you meet a ghost?
- “How do you boo, sir, how do you boo?”
Fail.
COMING SOON …
With Halloween just around the corner, you’ll be glad to know that theres quite a few nice little nasties heading your way in the not too distant future. So, here’s a quick rundown of all the best UK releases to watch out for.
- Straw Dogs – Freemantle Media Enterprises – Out on Blu-Ray and two-disk DVD on the 24th October. Monday sees the release of Sam Peckinpah’s masterpiece, Straw Dogs, restored and remastered and looking better than ever. If you’re a fan of the film, then the fanhub is the place to be. It’s just jam-packed with so many great articles and info on the film! Whilst you’re all fired up with Straw Dogs-ness you may also enjoy checking out Stevie Simkin’s (the author of Straw Dogs Controversies) blogs written just for Cult Labs too.
- Three words: Shameless Slasher Nasties. Nuff said. This is the latest box set from Shameless Screen Entertainment that complies three of their best releases (Aldo Lado’s Night Train Murders, Giulio Berruti’s Killer Nun and one of the greatest giallo, Sergio Martino’s Torso) in one awesome looking set in the shape of an old VHS no less. Out on the 24th as well, this set is perfect if you’re after a bit of an Italian theme for your Halloween viewing. But which is the best film of the set? There’s only one way to find out…FIGHT! Vote for your favourite film of the set so we can have a definitive answer. Oh, and keep your eyes pealed for a very special blog very soon all about each film’s original VHS release and the controversy surronding them.
- Give me a ‘T’! Give me a ‘H’! Give me an ‘E’! Give me a ‘C’…ah cut to the chase! Just give me The Cheerleaders on DVD already! Whats that? The Cheerleaders and it’s equally naughty The Revenge Of The Cheerleaders out soon on DVD? Now we’re talking! Arrowdrome have gone all out with this set, released on the 24th AS WELL, it comes complete with the usual goodness you’d expect from an Arrowdrome release but throws in an extra film too! Vote for which one you’re most looking forward to seeing on the poll!
-
Arrow Video’s Blu-Ray release of Maniac Cop sees the light of day Halloween (the 31st!) in this excellent package. For those unfamiliar with the film, it stars Bruce Campbell and Tom Atkins. Now if that’s not reason enough to check this out, then I don’t know what is! This great cult film is available on Blu-Ray only and is flooded with extra features. Let us know what you make of the 4 alternative artwork covers on the poll too. What panel will you be using?
- Finally, we also have Shameless’s release of The House On The Edge Of The Park coming out very soon too. Ruggero Deodato, David Hess and Giovanni Lombardo Radice team up to bring you this high (low?) point of Italian exploitation. It’s mean. It’s gritty. It’s sadistic. It’s twisted. It’s The House On The Edge Of The Park. Let us know what you make of the film, take a look at the artwork or pay tribute to the late David hess on the film’s sub-forum.
THE TWILIGHT ZONE
Over the next few months, Cult Labs are going Twilight Zone crazy! Each week we have a particular topic up for discussion, this week it’s the turn of horror! We’re talking about the scariest Twilight Zone episodes. Which ones shook you to the bone? Let us know on the new mini-forum and vote for your scariest episode here! Oh, and look out for our weekly Twilight Zone evening where we’ll be watching an episode from the show together in keeping with that week’s theme. From Monday, Sarah takes over as the Twilight Zone weekly discussion turns even more terrifying – I was to scared to continue it.
