IT’S NO-SHAVE NOVEMBER!
First of all, I hope you had an awesome Halloween and ate far too many sweets! But Halloween is now over, nobody cares about it – that was so last month. This month it’s all about facial hair. Beards, beards, marvelous beards! Are you taking part in No-Shave November? The one time of the year when you can look like a down and out bum and claim its for charity. I lack the aura of awesomeness one must have to pull off a beard so, instead, I’ll be admiring the many great beards that mankind has grown throughout history from St Nick to Charles Darwin. We’ve got a thread on the forum dedicated to The Greatest Beards In Cinema so be sure to pop in a few off your own suggestions! So, comb a parting in that chin hair of yours and munch on the random crumbs it has collected over the past few days as I guide you through what’s been happening in the Cult Labs Kingdom in this week’s newsletter!
ALL THE BEST THINGS OUT NOW!
Well, well, well, lets take a look at whats been released this week. Three big titles this time round, unfortunatly there’s not many beards to be seen. Oh well.
- Maniac Cop – Its finally out! The baddest cop of them all has hit the shelves and is ready to cause complete chaos. This brilliant film from the director of the notorious Maniac stars two of the greatest cult actors; Bruce Campbell and Tom Atkins! Now, try telling me that’s not an impressive cast! For those who have yet to see this classic, the film is a blood splattered tale of brutal cop vengeance from beyond the grave. Nice! Released on Blu-Ray by Arrow Video, this Maniac Cop comes complete with the expected booklet and reversible artwork as well as an exlusive introduction by Atkins and some very interesting featurettes too. Order yours here and be sure to join in the conversation at the release’s official forum.
- The House On The Edge Of The Park – Also out this week is Ruggero Deodato’s infamous video nasty from Shameless Screen Entertainment. Staring David Hess (and featuring his last interview) and king of Italian Exploitation Giovanni Lombardo Radice in one of their greatest roles, this film is not to be taken lightly. Full of blood and rape, this film is mean and nasty. So if you’re looking for the Care Bears Musical, look elsewhere, because this film is one wild beast! We’ve got a whole load of great topics to talk about too on the forum, such as the DVD Specs, the ultimate Best of David Hess poll and of course, feel free to start your own threads! Order yours online here.
- Prisoner: Cell Block H Volume 10 - Wrapping it up this week, we have Freemantle’s latest Prisoner release, Volume 10. With the latest Screw joining Wentworth, The Freak shows her true colour; black. A black leather glove. When she puts on those, you know your in trouble. The set contains episodes 289-320 on 8 seperate disks and proves to be one of Prisoner‘s shining moments. As always, the forum is full of chit chat (just take a look below) so come in and join! Order yours here. Sadly, since it’s a woman’s prison, theres very little in the way of facial hair, but one things for sure. If you thought The Freak was scary now, wait till you see her with a beard…
COMING SOON!
There’s plenty of titles coming out soon too to really get you salivating! Just take a look at these great films…
- The Exterminator – One of the main influences on the brilliant Hobo With A Shotgun, The Exterminator is a brilliant revenge film with plenty of murder and sex to fulfill every Cult film fan. Oh and did I mention it has a big-ass flamethrower in it?! No? Well it does! Watch as one man cleans the streets of scumbags one burning body at a time. We’ve all had the urge at some point or another to whip out a humongous flamethrower and burn every little moron away. Sadly, finding a descent flamethrower in Argos is a little tricky, but I’m always looking. In the meantime, The Exterminator will keep you occupied. Take a look at the mini-forum and join in the convos; vote for your favourite artwork and see what The Dude Designs has to say on his new cover. Pre-Order your Blu-Ray here. Out on the 7th Nov!
- Gates Of Hell Trilogy – From flamethrowers to zombies! I think I’ve just wet myself. Everyone loves a good (or bad!) Italian zombie film, but none quite compare to Lucio Fulci’s unbeatable Gates Of Hell trilogy, made up of The Beyond, City Of The Living Dead and The House By The Cemetery. All in one gorgeous box, with reversible art and a booklet. Count me in! Order yours here and vote for which film is your personal favourite. Out on the 7th Nov!
- Tour Of Duty - The classic TV war drama is out on DVD…nearly. As Sam has said on this thread, ‘Before Band of Brothers there was Tour Of Duty‘ , which gives you a very good idea of the quality we’re talking about with this! The complete first season (21 1 hour episodes!) is heading your way soon, so come and visit the official mini-forum for some great screenshots, DVD details and even a thread dedicated to the show’s incredible soundtrack!
- Rare Exports – Ho Ho Hodeargodrunforyourlife! Christmas; forget all that rubbish you’ve heard about it being a time of good will, it’s a time of murder, horror and evil Santa Clauses. So lock up your advent calenders, burn your tinsel, tell your turkey to get stuffed, because you better watch out, you better not cry, you better not pout, I’m telling you why. Santa Claus is coming to town and is going to KILL YOU! Rare Exports is up there with Black Christmas, Silent Night, Deadly Night as a Christmas film not for kids! Killer Santas on the loose! What could be more awesome than that? How about all the beards in this film! Seriously, I’m surprised the kids aren’t sprouting their own chin jungle! Check out the frankly incredible hubsite for tones of cool stuff including artwork and info on other mean spirited Christmas Films! Pre-order yours here.
THE TWILIGHT ZONE
As you may know, the official Twilight Zone forum on Cult Labs (right about…here!) is dedicating a topic of chit-chat each and every week. And this week, coinciding with Guy Fawkes Night, it’s all about the past. So, what is your favourite Twilight Zone episode set in the past? Or perhaps an even better question is….what historical era would you love to have seen a Twilight Zone episode set? It’s a tough querstion!
