THIS WEEK @ CULT LABS: 25 NOV 2011

ONE MONTH LEFT? IT’S TIME TO PANIC! PANIC! PANIC!

On the 5th Newsletter before Christmas my undead love gave to me...

The countdown to the big day has begun! There’s one month remaining until the most peaceful day of the year arrives in which friends and family lovingly come together and celebrate all that is good in the world as they sing carols around a burning log fire whilst snow gently tumbles to the cold ground outside. Or, if you live in the real world, one month of total chaos until the most hectic day of the year with friends and family at each others throat, fighting over the biggest pressies and racing to the last roast potato. Oh joy, oh most triumphant joy. However on the plus, it does mean that I can start blasting out some heavy metal Christmas ‘classics’. Anyway, hows your Christmas shopping going? Planning on speeding to the local petrol garage the night before and picking up random bits and bobs for your loved ones as per tradition? Well perhaps this week’s newsletter with help you pick some great presents for any film buff you know (i.e. yourself!)

ALL THE BEST THINGS OUT NOW!

Incredible artwork? Check!

This week highly awaited Arrow Video release of Deadly Blessing is finally out! Horray! For those of you unfamiliar with the film, Deadly Blessing is a Wes Craven movie which turns out to be amongst his best, rivaling such greats as The Last House On The Left, Scream and A Nightmare On Elm Street. It stars such incredible talent as Sharon Stone (Casino, Basic Instinct, Total Recall), Ernest Borgnine (The Wild Bunch, Escape Fom New York and the Mermaid Man in Spongebob Squarepants!) and my personal favourite with that unforgettable face Michael Berryman (from The Hills Have Eyes, The Devil’s Rejects) and tells the story of a rather evil Amish community. If you’re a fan of horror, especially from the ’80s then this is a must have!

The film’s official mini-forum is bursting with tones of topics to really get stuck in. From awesome artwork to the ultimate Craven poll to end all Craven polls and of course the thread to share all those other religious horror films such as The Exorcist. So come and visit and share your thoughts.

Deadly Blessing is out now and can be ordered online at Amazon for less than a tenner! Crazy! If you’ve already picked up your copy, let us know what you make of it here.

COMING SOON!

There are tones of great titles out early next year to look forward to and get over the post-Christmas blues. Here’s just a short selection of great titles to look out for…

  • Awesome!

The Troll Hunter (Momentum Pictures, DVD & Blu-Ray). Stick the word ‘Troll’ in a title of a film and you instantly think of the little known town of Nilbog, sexy corn on the cob and ‘Oh My Goooooooooood’ terrible dialogue. But the new Troll Hunter film couldn’t be further from that terribly bad movie and proves to be one of  this year!  The critics are raving about it and so are fans (as seen on the official forum), even comparing it to the incredible Jurassic Park! The Troll Hunter is out of both DVD and Blu-Ray on the 9th of January. Pre-Order yours here and pop into the Fan Hub for loads of neat things including a hillarious take on Star Wars meets Troll Hunter!

  • Frankenhooker (Arrow Video, Blu-Ray) – Frank Henenlotter is easily of of the greatest cult directors. Easily! From Basket Case to Brain Damage and Bad Biology, Henelotter’s work is unmistakable and always, always a lot of fun! His Frankenhooker is one of his greats staring a terrific cast with plenty of throwbacks and twists to the horror genre. Arrow Video’s Blu-Ray release (out on the 2nd of Jan)  is jam packed with brilliant extras (just take a look at these) and will surely be a terrific package. Pre-order yours here if you fancy a helping of sluts and bolts.
  • What artwork would you like used?

Four Flies On A Grey Velvet (Shameless Screen Entertainment, DVD & Blu-Ray). Any Argento fans out there? Woah! Not all at once! To mark the Fortieth Anniversay of its production, and Twenty years after the film disappeared from the public eye, Shameless Screen Entertainment are aiming to release the first ever worldwide Blu-ray of Dario Argento’s Four Flies on Grey Velvet – remastered in HD from the original negative by the original lab. How cool is that?! For more details head to the official forum where there is already a huge buzz about this film! If you are an Argento-phile, pre-order your copy here ahead of its release on the 30th January!

THIS WEEK @ CULT LABS: 18 NOV 2011

I AM THE MUSIC MAN, I COME FROM DOWN YOUR WAY AND I CAN PLAY!

Metal rules. Simples. m/ m/

“What can you play?”

I can play the…recorder?

Ok, look, I’m not exactly the most musically gifted person on the planet, but I know what I like and I like what I know and I love Heavy Metal! Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, Motorhead, Iron Maiden…you get the idea. Whilst Metal may not be your thang (shame on you), I’m pretty sure that you too enjoy bombarding your eardrums with beats and notes and leaving yourself permanently deaf by the age of 35,  just like most other people. Whether its The Beatles, ABBA, Queen, Elton John, 2-Pac,  Sex Pistols, Take That,  Necrocannibalistic Vomitorium or Barry Manilow, music makes life just that little bit better. And who doesn’t like headbanging to Manilow? Which is why there is now a whole section dedicated to ‘art’ of the audio kind on the Cult Labs forum!  Pop in to the new Music sub-forum and chat to your hearts content all about music, from showing off your own talents, to your favourite bands and the greatest film soundtracks around. What are you waiting for? Rock on over to the forum now.

In the meantime, let’s turn it  up to 11, do the Cha Cha Slide, twist and shout and give yourself crippling whiplash whilst headbanging your way through this week’s newsletter! Let’s go…

ALL THE BEST THINGS OUT NOW!

Sadly there’s nothing new out this week from many of the UK’s greatest cult DVD/Blu-Ray labels, but in case you missed out on the previous newsletter, last week saw the release of the Tour Of Duty BoxSet and The Exterimator Blu-Ray. So if those sound like you’re cup of tea, well what are you waiting for? In the meantime, if you’re still hungry for more films, why not catch up on the past releases you may be missing? And show of your collection on the forum! Just take a look at Sobral‘s collection…

Show off yours by clicking the pic!

COMING SOON!

There are so many incredible titles out soon that you’re bound to enjoy! So here’s a run down of what’s out when…

  • The reverse artwork panel.

Deadly Blessing (Arrow Video, DVD) – Few would argue that Wes Craven is one of the most prolific and recognised directors in all of horror cinema, especially with such incredible films as A Nightmare On Elm Street, the notorious Last House On The Left and his Scream franchise. Buried within his filmography among all this huge and widely-known films are true gems that are just as enjoyable to watch and Deadly Blessing is the perfect example. A fantastic horror film that’ll keep your heartbeat racing throughout. If you’re one of those people who fear the knock on the door from a devote religious follower, then wait until you see Deadly Blessing with it’s spine-chilling and totally evil Amish psychos. Arrow Video’s release of this is out on the 28th of this month. Pre-order yours here and say your prayers. They could be your last. Come along to Deadly Blessing‘s shine of worship on it’s  very own mini-forum, with threads on the artwork, the release and a  new shiny thread all about religion and the Amish in horror films!

  • Troll Hunter (Momentum, DVD & Blu-Ray) – For all you internet forum buffs out there, this film is not about a guy going round taking care of trolls of the web one witty reply at a time. Far from it. Instead, rather than annoying technological savy beasts, the trolls in Troll Hunter are the stuff of nightmares. Huge big ugly looking things.  When a film is compared to Jurrasic Park, you know it’s going to be good! Prepare to be blown away with this fantastic film out on the 9th January as we saddle up and go hunt some giant trolls. If you managed to catch this in the cinemas during its limited run, or even at FrightFest, why not trek over to the official mini-forum and share your thoughts of the film. Head on to the Official thread for all the details on this release and pre-order yours here (DVD) or there (Blu-Ray).

*Enter mother-in-law jokes here*

  • Cemetery Man (Shameless Screen Entertainment, DVD) – There’s three types of zombie films in this world. There’s the classics that everyone knows and loves, such as Night of the Living Dead, Dawn and Day Of The Dead and The Return of the Living Dead. Then there’s the so-bad-it’s-genius zom-films such as the breast-feeding-obsessed The Zombie Dead. And then there’s the lesser known undead films that will blow your mind  like a shotgun blast to a decayed face. (There’s also the painfully god-awfully bad zombie film, but it’s best if we all ignore those *Cough*TheZombieChronicles*Cough*). Firmly falling in the category of incredible lesser known zombie flicks, is such films as The Living Dead At Manchester Morgue and Cemetery Man (AKA Dellamorte Dellamore). Fantastically exciting news for zombie fans as, Shameless have recently announced that they’ll be releasing the awesome film known as Cemetery Man on the 27th of Feb! Horray! Be the first to get it bypre-ordering yours here. Pop into the mini-forum to see all the info and have your say. Got any artwork ideas? Share them here too.

Zombies, guns and sex...kinky.
