“I hated watching myself afterwards, but grief is ugly and raw, and it would have made a mockery of the part if I’d been wearing foundation or lip gloss. You have to stay truthful, although living in a state of sadness – even artificial sadness – really took its toll on me. I was quite relieved when filming ended.”

Anna Friel’s central performance in the ITV drama Without You takes the insurmountable pain of the loss of a spouse and adds a dose of criminal conspiracy and murder to the mix. No wonder Anna Friel’s character falls to pieces during the running time of Without You and it’s no surprise to see that Friel felt emotionally exhausted by the time filming wrapped.
