Away we go…
ALL THE BEST CULT RELEASES
The Wicker Tree
It’s out now! Robin Hardy’s Evil Dead II-esque sequel to his Cult Classic, The Wicker Man was released earlier this week by Anchor Bay on DVD and Blu-Ray. Perfect timing too especially since May Day was also earlier this week – a day with associations to human sacrifices and pagan rituals. Take a look at this countdown of the greatest Human Sacrifice movies to really welcome in this Spring month. If you’re a fan of the original film (who isn’t?!) or fancy a night’s entertainment full of Pagan freakery and heart-thumping human offerings then picking up the black-as-night comedy horror, The Wicker Tree is a must! Visit the official forum here for a whole wealth of great topics from reviews, the specs, threads about Pagan themed horror movies and so much more!
The Raid
The theatrical release date for the biggest action sensation, The Raid is approaching very quickly! Out in cinemas May the 18th, The Raid has already received a staggering amount of unbelievably positive reviews! It really is quite something. From Empire’s 5 star review to the Martial Arts website, Full Mount who gave it a phenomenal praise and described it as the best Martial Arts movie of ALL time! This film is set to be a game-changer and one of the most iconic action films ever to have been made. Head on over to the new and sparkly official Raid forum for plenty of topics to get stuck into, and don’t forget to join the ever growing The Raid UK Facebook group too! And if that still isn’t enough to quench your adrenaline-fueled thirst, visit the fan hub for daily articles, you’ll always find something new and fascinating on there.
The Divide
This week also witnessed the release of The Divide on various online sites. You can now watch this incredibly gritty, powerful and gruesome horror sci-fi on places such as Youtube, Itunes, Virgin or on Blinkbox and even Xbox for all you gamers out there. The film’s official mini-forum has been receiving tonnes of great reviews from members and if you’re a fan of the director’s Frontier(s) or would like to see a film a little stronger and much more darker than your usual post-apocalyptic sci-fi film , then this is one to see! Come and share your favourite apocalyptic movie over on the new thread too, before the world ends!
War Of The Dead
What’s cooler than zombies? Nazi zombies of course! From Zombie Lake to Dead Snow, nothing is quite as awesome as a swastika-bound undead flesh-eater. The latest addition to this genre is none other than War Of The Dead. Like Dog Soldiers…but with zombies. It’s fun, it’s gory, it’s a nazi zombie film. You can’t go wrong with this one! Out later this month, keep your eyes pealed for more brain-chewing news on this…
Catch. 44
Calling all Quentin Tarantino fans! With his Django coming out in the near future, I bet you’re hungry for some Tarantino-like entertainment. You’ve watched Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs so much, the disc has worn away to dust. Well, here’s your answer! Starring Bruce Willis, Forest Whitaker and Brad Dourif, Catch. 44 is a sleek, stylish and seriously good Tarantino-inspired shoot-out movie. Also out later this month, this comes highly recommended.
Arrow News
In other Cult News, Arrow have announced that several of their upcoming titles have, unfortunately, been delayed. This is beyond Arrow’s control (a problem with printing) and has meant that three releases have now been slightly pushed back. So, the correct new days for these three titles are as follows;
- Forbidden Zone is now due out on the 14th May
- The House By The Cemetery is out on the 21st May (however, the Dual Format Edition of this title will still be out as planned on the 7th)
- Demons will be out on the 21st May as well. Again, the Steelbooks are not affected and are out now.
Visit the Official Arrow Forum for more details and a look at the new announcements for their future releases, including a very cool steelbook of Lady Snowblood!
