ACTION CINEMA IS BACK!
Over the past decade or so, action cinema has changed. Now focused on epic scenes of CGI monsters beating each other up, the days of action stars pounding the faces of their enemies with their bare fists has somewhat disappeared. There’s no real modern equivalent to Bruce Lee, Arnie or Stallone when they were at the peak of their ass-kicking careers. Until now! Meet Iko Uwais, star of the The Raid. The up and coming martial arts expert is rocking raving reviews with his incredible skills and speed. It really is jaw-droppingly impressive! The Raid is out nationwide today! Don’t miss your chance to see this action sensation, a film that will propel Uwais into the fist-thumping spotlight and a movie that will be talked about for decades to come as the film that re-defined action cinema. It’s brutal, it’s bloody, it’s freakin’ amazing! You’ll love it!
There’s some much going on online with The Raid it’s crazy! Visit the film’s Official Forum for all the debates and chit-chat, the fanhub has new daily content and the Facebook page is constantly updated with awesome material from fan-pictures, an album of the film’s graphic novel, exclusive clips, articles and so much more!
ALL THE BEST CULT RELEASES
The Divide
The lucky ones died in the blast. Never was a movie’s tagline quite some true. Once you’ve seen Xavier Gens’ latest film, The Divide your dreams of surviving the apocalypse and start up your own religion of mutant cockroaches may no longer exist. With truly shocking scenes of rape, murder, radiation poisoning and an unforgettably claustrophobic atmosphere, this is one mean and uncompromising sci-fi horror film. Out now on DVD, you can order The Divide from Amazon. Check out the official forum for all the latest talk…
War Of The Dead
Heil! Heil! Heil! The undead Nazis are back again, goosestepping out of their graves and feasting their decayed mouths upon the succulent flesh of the living. The latest addition to this sub-genre, War Of The Dead is a great mix of horror, zombies and war. Imagine Dog Soldiers mixed with running zombies and you’ll know just what to expect. Nazi Zombies are undeniably awesome. Check out this blog I wrote earlier in the week dedicated to Hitler’s army of undeath and share your thoughts on these films over on the new thread! Pre-order yours here!
Arrow Video
This week saw two fantastic new Arrow titles released unto the world. The Arrowdrome version of the classic vigilante-spoilation film The Exterminator was accompanied by one of my all time absolute favourite movies, the totally unique and very odd Forbidden Zone. It’s such an incredible film with an unforgettable soundtrack and simply stunning visual style. Weird, funny and just plain bonkers – Forbidden Zone epitomises Cult Cinema. And now you can own it on Blu-Ray thanks to those great guys at Arrow Video. You can order The Exterminator here and the Forbidden Zone blu-ray there.
In less than great news however, is the news regarding The House By The Cemetery‘s Blu-Ray mix-up. Visit this thread for all the details on this.
Catch .44
Now here is one classy film. If you’re a fan of Quentin Tarantino, you’re going to simply fall in love with this Tarantino-esque movie. Catch .44 has a phenomenal cast comprising of Forest Whitaker, Bruce Willis and Brad Dourif and will keep you glued to the TV with it’s constant narrative twists and turns. Not to be missed! Pre-order yours here and have a read about the Tarantino influences over on the Cult Labs blog.
Shameless Screen Entertainment
Time is ticking! The countdown until the release of Shameless’ next release, the Pop Erotica box set is well and truly underway. Featuring Venus In Furs, The Frightened Woman and Baba Yaga it’s another slice of seriously funky and oh so sleazy exploitation entertainment. Check out the Official Announcement for some more details on this release. In the meantime, there’s plenty of discussion to tuck into on the Official Shameless forum. You could suggest titles you’d like to see Shameless release, create some fan-made artwork or head into the archive of yellowness and discuss their back catalogue!
