Whilst Arnie may have the brawn and Stallone may have the speech impediment, no other action hero has quite the same versatility as Bruce Willis. On one hand, he’s the ultimate ass-kicking muscle man and yet, on the other, he’s also known for more intimate and emotionally powerful roles. With his latest movie, the very sleek and stylish Catch .44 coming out on DVD and Blu-Ray on the 28th, here’s a quick countdown of Brucey’s greatest movie moments.
There are so many fantastic moments to choose from Willis’ outstanding career that a list of 5 really cannot do it justice. From his rumoured appearance in Driller Killer (apparently holding open a cab door) to his television roles, most notably Paul Stevens in Friends, there’s so many to pick from! So here’s a quick fire list of some of his best remembered moments. Enjoy!
1) Die Hard - “Nine million terrorists in the world and I gotta kill one with feet smaller than my sister.”
Ho ho ho and all that festive stuff. Forget Home Alone and A Miracle On 34th St., if there’s only one film to watch each Christmas it has to be the series that made Bruce Willis one of the greatest action stars of all time. Stuffed with tension, air ducts and feet the original Die Hard movie is an unforgettable piece of action cinema. The greatest moment? Surely it has to be the death of Hans Gruber. Tricking the villain before pushing him off the building as ‘. Yippee-ki-yay Motherfucker’ trickles of the tongue proves to be one of the greatest moments in all of action cinema.
2) Pulp Fiction – “You feel that sting, big boy, huh?”
Following the huge success of Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction served to place Quentin Tarantino firmly on the map of cinema’s greats. With such an impressive all-star cast, it takes a lot of power to steal the show but somehow Bruce manages to do just that. In perhaps one of the most memorable moments of this film, Butch AKA. Bruce gets his ultimate revenge on three deranged psychos; Maynard, Zed and the Gimp. It’s brutal, it’s bloody and it’s Bruce at his best.
3) The Sixth Sense – “Keep moving, cheesedick.”
Away from all the explosions, violence and action for a moment, Bruce’s most inspired and moving roles is most likely that of Dr. Malcolm Crowe from the spine-tingling, twisting and turning Shyamalan masterpiece, The Sixth Sense. The greatest Willis moment? It just has to be the ‘I see dead people’ classic scene. Willis shows his incredible versatility superbly in this creepy moment.
4) 12 Monkeys – “All I see are dead people.”
From one dramatic role to another, this time from the unique mind of Terry Gilliam. Bruce Willis plays James Cole in this mesmerising movie set in a post-apocalyptic movie. The most haunting and poignant scene is also one of Bruce’s greatest of his career. The unforgettable moment in which Blueberry Hill delivers a speech through the radio reminding him that everything mankind was and had taken for granted is now gone, still packs a punch.
5) Catch .44 – “Shut the fuck up”
Bruce’s latest movie is bound to go down as one of his most cherished and adored by movie fans. With a similar style to the best of Quentin Tarantino and an incredible list of stars (Forest Whitaker, Brad Dourif and Deborah Ann Woll accompanying Bruce), this is one heck of a film. Honerable Mention – Grindhouse
A melting Bruce Willis. ‘Nuff said.
The Worst Of Bruce?
In the 1980s, Mr Willis decided to take the music industry by the throat and shake it up a little. Stepping away from film, the ultimate action star released a pop and R ‘n’ B album in 1987 titled The Return Of Bruno. Is this Bruce’s worst or greatest moment? Well, you’ll have to decide for yourself.
