When there’s something strange in your neighborhood, who you gonna call? Ghostbusters! The theme song to the iconic 80′s ghost film has become just as popular as the movie itself.  So far in the 80s, we’ve looked at such scary ghost films as The Shining, The Entity and The Fog, but by the mid-80s, the ghost genre completely changed and headed into the realms of comedy.

Released in 1984 and staring comedy superstars Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Rick Moranis, Ghostbusters was a completely different breed of ghost film than the early 80s output. No longer were ghosts and phantoms for adults only, but were now part of the family entertainment. In fact, the film pays homage to and parodies the grizzly The Entity with its darkly comic take on ghosts and sex.

It seems that horror and sci-fi had suddenly become family friendly. The middle of this decade saw a boom in similar movies from The Little Shop Of Horrors, Beetlejuice and Gremlins scaring and making kids laugh was never so popular.

A slightly inferior, but still immensely fun, sequel followed along with a kids TV show. Will there be a third Ghostbusters movie? Well, the idea has long since been toyed with, so fingers crossed there will be!

How many times have you watched a film and the women are nothing more than mindless, annoying screaming clichés? Too many to count, I bet! Horror films have always been known for their unfair portrayal of women who seem to run away with very little on, fall in love and then get killed, screaming. Well, The Pact offers something entirely different! A ghostly female-lead thriller that delivers the thrills and avoids these cliches.

Staring Caity Lotz as a woman who moves into her childhood home, only to be terrorized by a ghostly presence with a disturbing secret, her performance in this is perfect. This character is anything but a dim-witted scream queen. She’s intelligent, strong and determined. Most people would probably run screaming when confronted by the paranormal activity in this film, but not Lotz’s character who sticks it out and is driven to find out the sinister secret behind the entity.

But don’t be fooled into believing she’s nothing more than an emotionless, super strong hero. She’s no Ripley or Lara Croft. Instead, she’s much more believable than those, blending sensitivity and power perfectly. Similar to Jodie Foster in Silence Of The Lambs and Sarah Connor from The Terminator, The Pact is one of those rare films that have a strong but vulnerable female led principle cast. The Pact is a film that will not only terrify you but will make you care for and believe the characters. These are not weak, scream queens. These are strong-willed, classy ladies who aren’t going to let a spooky ghost scare them without some answers!

Take a look at this brilliant clip to see for yourself how gutsy she is!

THE PACT is available on DVD and Blu-ray 1st October. Pre-order yours today!
