THE WINNING ARTWORK. Fans chose particularly well I think because this sums up the Giallo thrillers perculiar relationship between sex and death very well. Full, ruby lips and a diamond sharp blade say more than a 1000 words. The inclusion of a straight razor is also a nice touch, it's a weapon, wielded in black leather gloves, that plays a huge role in movies of the genre. "A Unique Work of Visionary Genius" says Frightfest and Cult Labs concurs. This art will now become the reverse sleeve when the film gets its DVD release. Amer (cert. 18) is released by Anchor Bay Films

Last week, Cult Labs forum members and Facebook fan page users voted on which artwork was going to be used as part of the packaging for the upcoming release of AMER, a brand new movie that does for Giallo flicks what Kill Bill did for Samurai, Spaghetti Western and Grindhouse flicks. The companies releasing films in the UK are waking up to the fact that people who buy DVDs and Blu-Rays in an online streaming and illegally downloading world are after more than just the film. They want value and great packaging. By offering potential customers the chance to have a say on what the finished product will look like, it shows that they are taking notice of what film fans want.

The eventual chosen sleeve was a good one. Sexy in an understated way and to my mind, reminicent of the Valley of the Dolls (the original melodrama, not the Russ Meyer jiggle-o-thon).

Now, check out the full details about AMER
