Many Hollywood actors have real horror disasters lurking in their CVs, Outcast won’t be joining that list. Our second clip comes from early on in the movie when James Nesbitt goes through a tattooing ritual in order to take on the magical properties needed for the task he must complete. Rather than the needle guns used in modern tattooing, the skin art is created by painstakingly tapping the design into the flesh using a traditional ancient method. This is where the name Tattoo comes from, the endless tat-tat-tat of the artist driving the ink in the tender skin. As bloody, painful and drawn-out as a rite of passage in a horror movie should be, it’s a visceral scene and one in keeping with feeling of ageless magic that permeates the film.
