“For diehard Cell Block fans, this set is a pivotal moment in the Prisoner saga as it sees the final episodes for the beloved if deeply misunderstood Vera or Vinegar Tits, as she’s affectionately known by the lags.
Vera was the series first, and for some greatest, rotten screw. She’s a spinning vortex of conflict and emotional problems, a perfect soap opera tragedy. Steel faced, cynical and vicious but apt to turn into a confused child when an admiring man in a nice pair of slacks gives her even the scantest of attention, Vera has been known to engage in all manner of corruption in exchange for a few kind words and a snatched kiss.
Her loathing of the criminal classes leads to all manner of vengeful misdeeds, illegal brutality and dodgy dealings while her constant jockeying for position and constant meddling in office politics, all focused on getting the comfy chair in the governers office, meant her popularity among fellow officers was never high, even if the long suffering Meg always offered a grey, uniformed shoulder to weep on.
For anyone incarcerated by her or forced to work alongside her, the exit of Vera was a blessing but for the voyeurs on the other side of the glass, her loss is felt keenly. The world will never see the likes of her withering scowl again…”
Prisoner Cell Block H: Volume 7 (cert. 15) will be released on DVD (£34.99) by Shock Entertainment and FremantleMedia Enterprises on 18th April 2011.
