As for Herzog's
Nosferatu, it's one of my all-time favourite films and probably my favourite Dracula adaptation. It's truly stunning in every respect. The film simply oozes atmosphere, but not the frilly Gothic grandeur we're used to - but rather here we have decay, death and pestilence. Dracula isn't the towering majestic monster of Christopher Lee, but rather he is a sad, lonely creature full of self-loathing for his cursed condition. The scene when Nosferatu arrives at civilisation and the town descends into madness - death and decay in such a place of beauty, all to the haunting strains of Tsintskaro - is one that has stayed with me since. A film that is devastating in its beauty; albeit a terrible beauty. Absolutely love it and hope it turns up on BD in an English-friendly release soon. Please!
