We were in the middle of a move and some bugger decided to torch our house (luckily no one was in it at the time as we we all getting our new place ready ) and well you can guess how I felt.

The Carry On posters are very collectible. You are right about the Bond posters too. I would love to own the Sinbad one.

I've just started getting into these. I've tried a couple of times over the years, but couldn't seem to do it, but I've always wanted to. I've always thought they should be my cup of tea, given their influence on Who and my love for classic Who and The Avengers and so forth.

Anyhow this time around it seems to be working. Am mainly concentrating on the Dracula series so far. Loved the original Dracula and really liked Prince of Darkness and Taste the Blood of... What really sparked me off, amusingly enough, was a rather unpopular one - Satanic Rites of Dracula. Really awful full-screen VHS one-of-50-movies DVD rip, but I loved it anyway and am going to fork out for the Blu ray when I get paid. Haven't seen (but have got) Brides of Dracula and Scars of Dracula, and will have to get AD72 as well.

I have seen Frankenstein Created Woman, which was just okay. Not bad, well made and acted, but nothing spectacular, but I understand it's seen as a middling entry anyway.

Anyone got any other recommendations? With modern pop culture being a cup of cold sick to me, I'm rather enjoying finding something 'new' that's to my taste. Will have to check out the Amicus ones too (when I can afford it).

Hammer changed as the years went on. It's difficult to recommend one film over another because of this. As cinema changed Hammer tried to adapt and we went from lush Gothic horror melodrama with films like Dracula, The Curse of Frankenstein and The Mummy to more exploitative films with added sex, nudity and stronger gore.

So a recommendation of a personal fave such as Twins of Evil may be less representative of Hammer than first thought with it's lesbian vampires and beheadings.

I'd say go with Curse of Frankenstein - their first Gothic horror - then try The Mummy, Revenge of Frankenstein, Hound of the Baskervilles and see what you think.

If you have it i'd go with Curse. The Frankenstein films are linked and Revenge does follow on from Curse.

Evil of is pretty much a re-boot as is Horror of .

Frankenstein and the Monster From Hell is the best in the series,even surpassing Curse.

Of the Dracula series,I find TASTE the weakest and Dracula has risen and Scars to be great.I love them all,but in this case,the original is a bona fire classic.

Of course the other non Lee classic is the wonderful LEGEND OF THE 7 GOLDEN VAMPIRES,IMO one of the most entertaining films Hammer ever produced.

DR JEKYLL AND SISTER HYDE,PLAGUE OF THE ZOMBIES,THE DEVIL RIDES OUT,TWINS OF EVIL and if you can ignore the finale,TO THE DEVIL A DAUGHTER are all highly recommended as well.

Just seen a Dracula poster which was in poor condition go for five and a half thousand pounds on Flog It!.
