Fulci referred to his zombies as 'walking clay pots.' City was the one film from his zombie canon that Gianetto De Rossi didn't work on. He provided makeup fx for Zombi, The Beyond and House by the Cemetery. Completely agree there's just something disgusting about Fulci's zombies. They seem putrid and it's almost like you can smell them through the TV. Fulci does 4D
Especially Dr Freudstein from House by the Cemetery. God, he's disgusting.

City is my favourite Fulci movie, just pipping The Beyond. I always loved the open ending and it stayed with me for days after. I always interpreted it as the gates of hell have opened. It was a classic early 80s horror ending, just when you think you're safe.

Just as an aside, I always felt that Fulci was gradually building up to killing off Catriona MacColl. At the end of City, she screams and John John is probably in danger off screen.
In The Beyond, she and David Warbeck are left in limbo. Then in House, Freudstein bangs her head off of each of the stairs.
