Exactly! Making it a 12 makes sure if you go at busy periods the cinema is filled with kids who talk/laugh etc all through the movie. it ruins the experience for those mature enough for the experience.
I have heard a lot of complaints about this issue and only way to avoid it is if the cinema has a late night over 18 screening or go in the afternoon.
