That would have been the ultimate humiliation but thankfully it didn't happen. The Doctor only used the badge against the Cyberleader who was only weakened by it and still managed to get his revenge by damaging the TARDIS console which guaranteed Adric's death.

The original idea of it causing them to suffocate wasn't bad but it did get ridiculous in
Silver Nemesis when being hit by gold coins was enough to destroy them.
