My TV "corrects" most 1.66:1 presentations to 1.78:1 or thereabouts. It pisses me off hugely. Nearly cried when I put on Criterion's
The Night Of The Hunter. I'd almost rather have non-anamorphic version of 1.66:1 films until the unlikely event when I can afford a new telly.
