I don't think it does as the story is more about Stark as a man – the fall and rise of Tony Stark, if you will – than the further exploits of Tony Stark/Iron Man and has much better characterisation and dialogue than the previous two films. Shane Black is a brilliant screenwriter, as anyone who loves Lethal Weapon and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang will know.
