Dunno whether Leo D. Dog has been bringin' fleas in but I've 'ad an Ichi time lately!

"Zatoichi Meets Yojimbo" (1970)

"Zatoichi Meets the One-Armed Swordsman" (1971)

"Zatoichi in Desperation" (1972)

Three of the later episodes of the EPIC Zatoichi series of films starring Shintaro Katsu as the visually impaired masseur, swordsman and Lone Robin Hood of Nipon. These are eminently watchable films, with little to choose between them, by three very capable directors including Shintaro Katsu himself.

Despite the superhuman ability to fight off waves of enemies without being able to see them, Ichi is a very human character with sensitivities and a humour that many of his enemies seem to lack.

I really enjoyed watching Ichi's adventures and will certainly look for more. I've seen a gorgeous looking box set of all 26 films but it is beyond my price range so it's back to trawling charity shops and CEX etc. for me!

"...Meets Yojimbo"
16/10, "... Meets the One-Armed Swordsman" 15/10, "...In Desperation" 19/20.
