Howling V: The Rebirth (1989)

A semi-decent entry into what is a very erratic series of films with practically no connection (apart from they are all werewolf movies) to Joe Dantes's 1981 original.

A group of guests go to stay at a recently reopened castle in Hungary. A castle which as ever holds a dark secret. The secret being that someone at the castle is a werewolf. Just as much a whodunnit as a horror movie. The Rebirth plays out like an inferior version of 1974's The Beast Must Die but without the novelty of a 'werewolf break' and lacking that film's heavyweight cast.

The Gothic look of the film is wasted due to the whole thing having that digital feel to it rather than the authenticity of a production filmed on er' film. A shame really as the castle used for the film is a magnificent building.

However The Rebirth is still worth watching as it keeps you guessing who will eventually end up howling at the moon, and keeps you entertained with some nice practical gore fx.
