I've just finished watching The Last Cannibals, I'd forgotten what a silly film it was. The transfer is quite dark, I've just had a quick flick the old Shriek Show disc and their transfer varies between been too light and dark in places. The Blu is a definite upgrade in terms of picture and sound. The SS disc looks like second generation VHS tape in terms of clarity and definition.
The picture darkness could be for various reasons, there is a huge amount of day for night photography which does look dark on the blu whereas on the SS disc it just looks like broad daylight. It could be that the blu has had some colour timing correction carried out to make the night times scenes more night like. The main thing to remember though is that this is s Joe D'Amato film so the budget was low, the film stock was cheap and he wasn't always a fan of lighting scenes properly.
Overall it's an improvement over past releases.
