In this day and age I don't think any artist realistically 'makes money' off album sales now. It's all in the tour and that exclusive merchandise that you sell only at the concert.

You only have to look at the figures for tours by the likes of Madonna and Beyonce and see those gross ticket sale values to see the sheer amount of money they make. Obviously the venues and the management get their cuts, but working in a venue myself I know that touring shows take between 75% to 87.5% of the sales with the venue getting the rest, management is probably on 10%. It's silly money.

Kiss easily fall into that tier of touring shows (ie Madonna/Beyonce) as well. They could happily tour every year on the back of greatest hits or do those 'classic albums played in full' kind of tours and continue to rake it in.
