The layout is exactly the same as English Gothic and American Gothic.
I've read it cover to cover with no problems. The prose is just as engaging as ever for me and he covers quite a few movies that I'd never heard of before.
I don't think dip in and out formats suit large scale overviews like this as you don't appreciate how the genre has developed reading it like that. Plus it encourages short attention spans like the internet
