As for The Exorcist TV show, I liked some parts but not others. I wasn't overly keen on what they did with 'Captain Howdy', and turning Regan into the target of Pazuzu's possession – the book and film make it pretty clear that those around her, particularly Father Dyer, are the target, not the girl herself. This exchange is in the longer version of the film:

Father Karras: Why her? Why this girl?
Father Merrin: I think the point is to make us despair. To see ourselves as... animal and ugly. To make us reject the possibility that God could love us.

That's something, in addition to making a priest who thinks he is losing his faith lose it completely, I took from the theatrical version and novel.

On the positive side, I really like the interplay between the priests, the betrayal of possession and the exorcism sequences with the actors, even without the gravitas of Max von Sydow, impressing. The callback to the novel (rather than the film) with the use of 'Rags' rather than 'Regan' in a crucial moment was a nice touch.
