I think I read an article in Fangoria back in the 90's about it being filmed in the Ukraine and I thought it sounded really interesting, but then just never got the chance to watch it.
It might have been Darkside Magazine
It also had a location report from a Michele Soavi film in it as well, it was possibly The Sect... it must have been Dellamorte...
