Bringing you the best in Horror Movie News, and all things Horror.
John Landis' 1981 movie AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON is considered a classic and rightfully so. It contains one of the most brilliant werewolf transformation scenes to ever have been captured on film. Rick Baker's creative genius was exercised in order to pull of the ordeal resulting in practical effects heaven.
We learned back in November that Max Landis, son of original director John Landis will be writing and directing the remake of AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON.
Max Landis recently appeared on The Rugged Man Podcast where he dropped some decent sized news on the upcoming project.
His opinions on the use of practical effects and CGI:
“The thing I would do with CGI, were I directing this film, would be leg movement, and I would have the entire wolf’s face, back and body be practical, and then I would fully CGI the legs for organic movements. If you remake American Werewolf and the transformation scene isn’t practical, you have fu*ked up.”
He went on to speak about making the film saying:
“We’ll see if I can do it. We’ll see if I can pull it off. We’ll see if they even make it. My goal is I feel like all of the best remakes focus on one thing in the original movie, take a lot of the images of the original and then remix that really tightly. With American Werewolf I’m doing that, but I’m also just gonna try and do American Werewolf as best I can. We’ll see. I can’t make no promises.”
Universal Pictures is developing the project along with Landis who has some writing credits to his name but only one feature length directing credit with last year's ME HIM HER.
THE WALKING DEAD creator Robert Kirkman will be producing the AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON remake, along with David Albert, Todd Garner, and Matt Smith.
Father John Landis will executive produce, along with Andy Trapani.
Original synopsis:
"David (David Naughton) and Jack (Griffin Dunne), two American college students, are backpacking through Britain when a large wolf attacks them. David survives with a bite, but Jack is brutally killed. As David heals in the hospital, he's plagued by violent nightmares of his mutilated friend, who warns David that he is becoming a werewolf. When David discovers the horrible truth, he contemplates committing suicide before the next full moon causes him to transform from man to murderous beast."
We will continue to bring you more on the remake of AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON as we hear it.
