Not massively, the main differences being the ages of certain characters e.g. Dany is a lot younger in the books and was obviously aged for the show because of the sexual content of her early scenes with Khal Drogo
Well worth reading though, the series is a brilliant adaptation but the books have more detail, I'm flying through them at the minute despite their size
