It's all for merchandise. Buy a slightly redesigned TARDIS, then a new console room, not forgetting a new sonic screwdriver which were always big sellers.
Not that i'm complaining at all.
Plus the reduction to ten episodes is better. 12 x 45 mins = 540 mins whilst 10 x 60 mins = 600 minutes.
Note to Mr. Chibnall - Don't screw with the Dalek design. You can't get better than perfection.
