October 14th Lights Out (2016)
A fairly listless and scare free experience which is watchable but no more. It's as if the film makers took the best bits of Doctor Who's Weeping Angels, Silence and Vashta Nerada monsters and turned them into a supernatural movie.
Teresa Palmer does well with limited material whilst Maria Bello is just there. The lights are out and no one's home. The Fog (1979)
From the spooky as hell opening campfire tale about the stricken vessel, the Elizabeth Dane, as whispered by John Houseman, to sultry Stevie Wayne on the radio during the witching hour. Director John Carpenter cares as much about setting the scene as he does the visceral shocks which follow. The Fog is in every way the perfect supernatural horror film.
