You can't have it both ways. It was stated earlier that there's such a wealth of Star Wars material to go at for these films be it novels, graphic novels etc that Solo will have a complex back and future story.
So he's either underwritten or fully rounded depending on, well nothing really, just whatever mood you're in. (Not you, K, but everyone)
