I'm two episodes into the complete Network box set of
Dempsey and Makepiece.
Really enjoying it so far. The basic premise is like that of the John Wayne thriller
Brannigan where a New York cop is sent to the UK to work here. It's all a bit fish out of water so far but that makes it a lot of fun as well. There's definitely chemistry there between Michael Brandon's Dempsey and Glynis Barber as Scotland Yard sergeant Harriet Makepiece, even though they seem to hate each others guts. Hopefully it stays this way throughout the three series run then it will always have that 'Will they, won't they' sexual tension.
The stories, so far, are full throttle with shoot outs (Dempsey carries a gun despite constant efforts by superiors to remove it) car chases and fist fights galore. Despite it supposedly being cut for day time tv which this box set apparently is if you trust Amazon reviewers, it seems words like 'Bollocking' are okay after
Loose Women on a weekday afternoon.
It's a series that is also blackly comic. Ray Smith as police chief Spikings is a hoot.
'Get bloody Cagney or Lacey or whatever he's called in here now' he yells at Makepiece.
I don't intend to watch all thirty episodes back to back and had thought of integrating
Jason King or
Randall and Hopkirk ( Deceased) in with them.
