Absurd films don't have to be nonsensical – that's just one part of the definition. My understanding was the definition could include making the mundane silly, just like Monty Python did with organised religion in The Life of Brian or Stanley Kubrick did with the cold war in Dr. Strangelove.
Not seen Birdman nor The Bed Sitting Room.
