I watched the three episodes of the BBC's adaptation of A Christmas Carol in one evening and thought it was brilliant. I thought Guy Pierce was excellent as Ebenezer Scrooge and the supporting cast with the likes of Stephen Graham, Andy Serkis, Jason Flemyng, Charlotte Riley, Joe Alwyn and Vinette Robinson were all tremendous.

There's also been a lot of care and attention paid to the look and sound of the miniseries as it is beautifully scored and has quite exceptional cinematography, costumes, set decoration, visual effects and production design.

At times, it is almost monochrome with areas of the screen illuminated by fire looking alien to the environment – it's as if warmth doesn't belong and is somehow intruding on a hard, uncaring world. Stephen Knight, who is most famous for creating Peaky Blinders, has done a fine adaptation of Charles Dickens' famous story, though taking some liberties with the source material, and something I will happily watch again.
