TRUE CHAMP: Captain Tom Moore given WWE world title belt by Scots star Drew McIntyre after raising £30m for NHS on 100th birthday

"NATIONAL HERO Captain Tom Moore has been honoured by WWE World Title holder Drew McIntyre by being presented with his own championship belt to celebrate his 100th birthday.

The World War Two veteran captured the hearts of the world this month by raising £29million for the NHS while in lockdown amid the coronavirus crisis.

After walking laps of his garden to raise the huge figure, his efforts have now been recognised by WWE with a unique tribute.

Ayr-born McIntyre, who made history on April 5 by defeating Brock Lesnar to become the first-ever British WWE champion at WrestleMania 36, announced the news.

And the specialised belt will feature the company’s iconic logo and side plates, which feature the NHS logo, to mark the hero’s achievements when he turns 100 on Thursday.

McIntyre said: “I am proud that WWE has created a WWE Championship title for Captain Tom Moore featuring personalised side plates to celebrate his 100th birthday and commemorate his achievements for the NHS.

“He is a true hero who stepped up when his country called in World War II, and who stepped up again today with the same selfless courage and determination to help others.

“At WWE our mission is to put smiles on people’s faces around the world.

“Captain Tom Moore has achieved that by uniting millions across the world in support of his truly outstanding fundraising endeavors.

“Captain Tom, I look forward to shaking your hand in person someday.”

Captain Tom received 120,000 birthday cards as he prepares to celebrate turning 100.

But he has turned down all offers of gifts - and instead asks well-wishers to give to those suffering with coronavirus.

Cpt Tom set out to raise £1,000 for NHS Communities by doing laps of his garden in Bedfordshire before his big birthday on Thursday, April 30.

But he passed that target in just 24 hours - and has now raised an astonishing £29m.

He will have his centenary marked by a full RAF flypast of the garden where he raised the huge figure."
