National Lampoon's European Vacation (1985)
First watch in donkeys years and it's still okay if not exactly laugh out loud funny.
It was interesting to see the differing styles of movies hinted at for each country the Griswolds visited. Firstly the Python-esq humour in Britain, the Audrey Hepburn, Paris When it Sizzles, cafe culture references during the French segment, the polka, Sound of Music influenced Bavarian scenes and the classic crime - robbery, kidnapping, car chases - of the Polizzioteschi genre in Rome.
Still watchable - the roundabout and visiting the in-laws in Germany bits always bring the most smiles- but no longer the comedy classic i once thought it was.
The Blu-ray quality is average at best.
