Looking that merchandise they're really trying to sell it for the Pride audience. Ofc Doctor Who has had gay fans and I've seen pink tardis before but those t shirts, I really really hate saying things have gone woke as it's almost bollocks made up by fear mongers, but it's does seem like RTD and the marketing department are trying to make the series and the doctor into gay icons.
Put it another way, anyone seen The Boys? Know how the company starts marketing one of the characters sexuality after she gets outed? Well it feels like this.
Or another spin like when they made the batman comics more humorous then dark.
I don't think it's just straight people either that get fed up. My friend hated that every episode has a reference to homosexuality shoehorned in. He described it as tokenism.
They r just trying too hard.
