The original umbrella title given to this 7-episode story by the production team in 1963 was 'The Mutants'
It only became know as 'The Daleks' as late as 1972 in order to avoid it being confused with the Jon Pertwee story of the same name
Is only they could think of something similar to do with all this 'series 1'...'series 2'...'series 3' nonsense, then people would find it easier to differentiate between 'An Unearthly Child' - 'The Reign Of Terror' / 'Rose' - 'The Parting Of The Ways' / 'The Church On Ruby Road - 'Empire Of Death' OR 'Planet Of Giants' - 'The Time Meddler' / 'The Christmas Invasion' - 'Doomsday' OR ''Galaxy 4' - 'The War Machines' / 'The Runaway Bride' - 'Last Of The Time Lords' etc
