Another book ruined by flashbacks. The central story is fun with a group of young women staying at a supposedly deserted lodge in the woods. Basically classic backwoods horror.

However there are whole chapters of back story from their college days that totally take you out of the main plot. I like Laymon's writing and it's easy to get into the college hijinks but any build up of tension is ruined and also arguably the horror takes you out of the girls former life. I think i'd have preferred this written linear. I'm not a fan of lengthy flashbacks in films so it's a no-no for me in prose form.
I don't think I ever managed to finish this one, like you said the flashback sequence didn't seem necessary.
