- Was one of only three people to direct 'Doctor Who' stories featuring William Hartnell, Patrick Troughton, Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker
- During the making of 'The Curse Of Peladon', upon seeing Alpha Centuri for the first time, he famously said "What the hell is that? A giant green dick?". A cloak was added to the character to try and hide it's phallic appearance, but from that moment, it was forever known as "the dick in the cloak" by the production team.
- He also ordered voice artist Ysanne Churchman to voice the character like "a gay civil servant"
- Provided the whistling soundtrack for Sarah-Jane Smith's final scene in 'The Hand of Fear' because Elisabeth Sladen could not whistle
