V for Vendetta (2006)
In a world in which Great Britain has become a fascist state, a masked vigilante known only as ?V? conducts guerrilla warfare against the oppressive British government. When V rescues a young woman from the secret police, he finds in her an ally with whom he can continue his fight to free the people of Britain.
I'd only watched my dvd of this when it initially came out almost twenty years ago and i can now see why. At two and a quarter hours it's far too long.
Certainly there are interesting things throughout and a fine cast of mainly British thesps portray the controlling oppressors, not to mention V's visually distinctive mask and appearance but at times it feels a slog getting to the moment we all want to see - The blowing up of the Houses of Parliament on the fifth of November - thankfully when it does take place it's more or less worth the wait.
Where i think it fails is in it's depiction of a totalitarian state, unless i missed something it appears there's only V who feels aggrieved by the situation for the most part, but it's main issue was that the film never really thrilled nor engaged me and it certainly never gripped.
