Bande a Part (1964)

Jean Luc Godard's playful tribute to old Hollywood done in his own style of Gallic cool is a fairly whimsical affair. It's the story of a couple of chancers (Sami Frey and Claude Brasseur) who meet up with the lovely Anna Karina and plan a robbery. Referencing several films from Hollywood, the trio roam Paris plotting the heist through acting out shoot outs in the streets and such like.

In all honesty it does drag a little but that four minute dance sequence in the cafe - The Madison Dance - according to Karina. is simply superb. The best scene in the movie by far, being both mesmeric to watch and cool as f*ck to boot.
