The desert location and the hills add to the isolation as sounds are heard in the rocks and one of the dogs get killed. Watching this time I thought, Bobby really should have told everyone what happened to the dog and what he heard as everyone was unprepared for the brutal attack on the Trailer at night.
I remember seeing posters and advertising for the movie at the time and it really did scare you, even just to see those.
The Hills Have Eyes, along with Scream, is my favourite Wes Craven film.

I watch it pretty regularly.
