I was at the NFT and William Friedkin and Mark Kermode were sitting at a table together signing items, Friedkin signed the laserdisc for me then all of a sudden Kermode grabbed it and went to sign it aswell! I swiftly snatched it back it before he had a chance, he looked quite shocked |

Jings this thread is turning into an Inferno!, I've just watched the "Mousegate" scene on the Italian Fox DVD (as it's PAL & not NTSC...I'm terrible at these timing things!) and now I'm now I'm confused: First cat/mouse clip is from 01:29:57 to 01:29:59 (3 secs give or take..mouse in cat's mouth with no movement) Second cat/mouse clip is from 01:30:04 to 1:30:09 (5 secs mouse in cats mouth with legs kicking about...cat chewing..mouse's lower body falls out of cat's mouth Now by my understanding they have allowed the first 3 sec shot as there was no visible life/movement from the mouse..yet cut he second as there is? is this not a bit inconsistent? why allow the second shot if the preceding one showed a mouse that was harmed in the second shot? Argento obviously filmed it to hammer home the whole hunter/prey thing as Mark gets closer to the secret of Mater Tenebranum...it of course would be fantastic to have the short sequence but IMO it's not really gonna hurt the movie (though it will be a pain to edit the audio as all this happens when Emerson's soundtrack is reaching a crescendo) I already have the AB & Fox DVD's of Inferno & will support Arrow, Callum & co for all the work that has went into this...I'll also be going for the other one due too, as extras for each are so different I'd like to support these boutique labels in the hope that we can get more of these gems out (and in this climate for niche labels we need to try & support them as much as we can) BTW loving the other panels much improved over the big bare arse!! |

Unfortunately, yes. I agree with you, it's absurd. Sadly, the legacy of the Ferman years still lives on and people in other territories still view the UK as a place where films are regularly cut by the BBFC. Even until very recently I've still been correcting people. Like I say, unfortunately a lot of people still have this perception that video product coming out of the UK is likely to be censored. I do my best to put people straight, but it usually falls on deaf ears. I really don't think the Cinematograph Act (Animals) 1937 should be abolished, but it maybe needs a little tweaking so that there's no confusion as to what is acceptable and what isn't. The cannibal films most certainly cross the line but maybe for films like Inferno there should be different considerations; ie: if it's animal doing what it would naturally do, then maybe that should be taken into consideration rather than classing it as animal cruelty. I think we all accept that the likes of Cannibal Holocaust et al will never be uncut on these shores and that's perfectly understandable - there's no doubt that those filmmakers acted irresponsibly and tormented those creatures. But that's man inflicting pain and suffering on an animal, which is highly illegal in this country and an offence you will be jailed for.

Send them to HMV and tell them to buy Caligula. Then they'll see how censored the UK is.

It's been said that the extras on COTLD are in 1080i/50hz. The review at thedigitalfix co.uk (can't post link yet) supports that. (don't know for sure, I haven't recieved the disc yet) In that case, for a lot of us US residents, extras in 1080i/50hz HD is not good. Hopefully this release is 1080p extras. |
