That might work, but I wonder if Dario Argento will be up for giving him a smack round the head!

No idea. I can't seem to find any information anywhere about the turnaround on the aspect ratio.

I've e-mailed the Profondo Rosso store to ask them if they know what Storaro's been up to with the new release. Hopefully I should get a reply back shortly. I know that both Argento and Cozzi have close links to the store and I hope that they will be alerted to what he is up to.

This is why argento needs to speak up on the treatment of his films. To me (and a lot of other fans) Bird is more than a movie, its a work of art, a carefully crafted piece of cinema from a man with a real vison. Framing it in the way storaro has, for whatever reason seems dubious, and to me and other die hard fans its appalling. Ultimately however, unless argento himself speaks up, storaro WAS the director of photography and any releasing company worth their salt are going to listen to the dp, especially if the directors voice is absent. The only thing i can think of is that dario has seen the film so many times he can't be bothered and gives his opinions on the film without re-visiting them. The only thing I do know is coppola apparently saw the storaro framing and got mightly upset, whatever legal wranglings took place we now have the directors vision how he intended it for all the world to see. Tragically a small independent company like arrow, who only want to cater to the fans as best they can have ended up suffering as a result. I dont think it'll end the company, theres too many goodies I will be buying for that to happen, but the whole thing is just depressing. ps... whoever's cutting and pasting my posts and e-mailing them to mr a. waite (currently residing at amazon) please stop. He was banned for a very good reason. |

I don't think Dario will that bothered, tbh, but I'd like to see his thoughts. Put into perspecive, utter atrocities have been visited on his films over the years on home video - they've been cut, re-edited, renamed and all sorts - if he cared about them all, he'd have gone mad years ago. This is not that huge a deal considering.

Yes but the treatment of his films you're mentioning is usually at the hands of companies or studies he has little to do with, not the Director of Photography on his first feature with whom he had a great working relationship with and spoke fondly of in interviews. |

It seems I am out of the loop rather, having only just read about the reframing issue with this release. I feel very sorry for Arrow that this ridiculous travesty is all that is available to them. My commiserations, I hope it sells well despite this absurd revisionism. |
