Default What Samurai films would you like to see?

I asked Arrow about Baseball Fury's query regarding Hanzo the Razor, but apparently Eureka own the rights so it won't be an ArrowDrome title.

On a brighter note, Arrow are interested in what other samurai films people would like to see released on ArrowDrome so why not post your suggestions here?

Shogun Assassin - the edited version which had more action derived from a few episode of the series and not the actual series itself.

Another film I'd love to see which is more kung fu than samurai is Five Superfighters. This really needs a release.

Eureka have only recently bought out a Shogun Assassin BD (which is stunning) so I can't see it coming out on Arrow . Eureka have got the genre locked up!

I'd like to see:

Throne Of Blood: (although I guess this is a BFI one!)
The 'Zatoichi' series
Destiny's Son: by the guy that made Zatoichi
Samurai Rebellion: the best of Mifune's non-Kurosawa films
Tenchu/Hitokiri: Probably the best samurai film ever made, genre-defining.
Yojimbo/Sanjuro: Damn that BFI!
The 'Sleepy Eyes of Death' series: Some people claim they're better than LW&C! I've only ever seen the one, but there's about 12 I think!?
The Last Samurai: Probably the last great classic Samurai film from the man behind LW&C and a bunch of Zatoichi movies.

To elaborate, the Ichikawa Raizo (1963-1969) versions of Sleepy Eyes of Death are the ones I mean:

Sleepy Eyes of Death 1: The Chinese Jade (1963)
Nemuri Kyōshirō 1: Sappocho (Enter Kyoshiro Nemuri, the Swordsman)

Sleepy Eyes of Death 2: Sword of Adventure (1964)
'Nemuri Kyōshirō 2: Shōbu (Adventure of Kyoshiro Nemuri)

Sleepy Eyes of Death 3: Full Circle Killing (1964)
Nemuri Kyōshirō 3: Engetsugiri (Exploits of Kyoshiro Nemuri)

Sleepy Eyes of Death 4: Sword of Seduction (1964)
Nemuri Kyōshirō 4: Joyoken (Kyoshiro Nemuri at Bay)

Sleepy Eyes of Death 5: Sword of Fire (1965)
Nemuri Kyōshirō 5: Enjo-ken (The Swordman and the Pirate)

Sleepy Eyes of Death 6: Sword of Satan (1965)
Nemuri Kyōshirō 6: Masho-ken (The Mysterious Sword of Kyoshiro)

Sleepy Eyes of Death 7: The Mask of the Princess (1966)
Nemuri Kyōshirō 7: Tajo-ken (The Mask of the Princess)

Sleepy Eyes of Death 8: Sword of Villainy (1966)
Nemuri Kyōshirō 8: Burai-ken (The Sword That Saved Edo)

Sleepy Eyes of Death 9: A Trail of Traps (1967)
Nemuri Kyōshirō 9: Burai-Hikae masho no hada (The Trail of Traps)

Sleepy Eyes of Death 10: Hell Is a Woman (1968)
Nemuri Kyōshirō 10: Onna jigoku (The Ronin Called Nemuri)

Sleepy Eyes of Death 11: In the Spider's Lair (1968)
Nemuri Kyōshirō 11: Hito hada kumo (The Human Tarantula)

Sleepy Eyes of Death 12: Castle Menagerie (1969)
Nemuri Kyōshirō 12: Akujo-gari (Castle Menagerie)

If Arrowdrome did a series of these I'd probably buy them 5 times in excitement. I think Animeigo have released the first 7 or 8 films in the States

There's also a Criterion set that includes Samurai Rebellion, Samurai Spy, Kill! and Sword of the Beast.

I've not seen SOTB, but the others are crackers, especially Samurai Rebellion.

Another one for Lady Snowblood here too.

Unsurprisingly, I'm much more a fan of the more sleazy style of samurai film like Hanzo the Razor, Lady Snowblood, Lone Wolf and Cub series etc.

Sex and Fury is one I'd love to see ArrowDrome tackle.

To follow on from the comments of others on this thread I too would like to see the Red Peony Gambler series of films and the Sleepy Eyes of Death films.

I haven't seen it, and have only seen an old trailer, but there is a film called Yokai Monsters: Spooky Warfare, which I think was released in Japan in 1968, and it looks deliriously mad! It may be equal parts monster movie and equal parts samurai movie, but it looks as though it would be serious fun for fans of cult cinema.

Something sleazy like Bohachi Bushido and the sequel would be most welcome too.
